N2 - Owing to the steric bulk of the tert‐butyl groups, the reactivity of the novel porphyrin 1, which has a nonplanar macrocyclic framework, deviates distinctly from that of any other known porphyrin. For example, prolonged treatment of 1 in HClO4/MeOH leads to formation of 5,15‐dihydroporphyrin (“porphodi‐methene”) 2. (Figure Presented.)
