Abstract

This paper proposes a bridgeless buck AC-DC converter for piezoelectric energy harvesting. A conventional circuit for this purpose consists of a full-bridge rectifier and a buck converter. The proposed circuit has the same functions as the conventional one and achieves better efficiency. In the circuit, the internal capacitance of the piezoelectric element and inductors used for the step-down operation form a resonant circuit, which plays a central role for reducing energy losses. Our experimental results show that the maximum output power of the proposed circuit is about 1.5 times higher than that of the conventional one.
