Abstract
In this paper, the dynamic behavior of a sandy bed in the vicinity of a seawall, under wave motion is investigated experimentally and theoretically. In the numerical analysis, the complete solution to the wave domain is provided by VOF (Volume of Fluid), and the FEM scheme is used to the seabed, both in a vertical plane. Small-scale laboratory tests were performed to verify the proposed numerical model. Numerically obtained: the wave heights and the pore water pressures around the seawall showed in good agreement with the experimental results. The outflow potential analysis of back-filling sand well explained the instability of the seabed in front of the seawall under large wave conditions.
