Abstract
The improvement of infrastructure for visually disabled persons has been advanced since early times in Japan. Although various countermeasures such as the acoustic signals and the braille blocks have been done up to now, it is not enough environmental considerations for pedestrians at the intersection. On the other hand, by the progress of information technology, "Pedestrian ITS" such as the walking support system and the route guidance system, etc are developed by the National Institute for Land and Infrastructure Management (NILIM). In this paper, we focus on the pedestrian signals utilizing the visible light communication (VLC) technology for the visually disabled persons and discuss the whole concept of information provision for crossing support at signalized intersection by using the result of the walking investigation and the questionnaire survey at simulated environmental conditions.
