Abstract

The anisotropic velocity correlation spectrum at small scales in a homogeneous turbulent shear flow was discussed. The velocity correlation spectrum tensor was determined by the rate of the strain tensor of the mean flow, the wave vector, two non dimensional constants, and the rate of energy dissipation per unit mass. The theoretical analysis and direct numerical simulation (DNS) on 5123 grid points suggested that the tensor in the inertial subrange of homogeneous turbulent shear flow at high Reynolds number was given by a simple form that is an anisotropic function of the wave vectors.
