Abstract
The heating curve technique was used to detect the melting of gold in a multianvil-type high-pressure device. A plateau due to latent heat of melting was observed on the heating curve at 5 GPa. The obtained melting point is consistent with previously reported results. The heating curve of gold was then applied as a pressure calibration at high temperature. The resultant calibration curve is in good agreement with that obtained by the quench technique. Advantages of the heating curve technique for pressure calibration are discussed.
