Abstract

Bearingless motors (BelMs), that can realize shaft suspending without mechanical contacts and lubrication by electromagnetic force, have been proposed. However, in outer rotor type BelMs, one-unit structure with small shaft output alone have been developed. Therefore, this paper introduces a two-unit outer rotor type BelM with consequent-pole permanent magnet structure (CPPM) for high shaft output and the magnetic suspension characteristics of the proposed motor with experimental results. It can be verified that the proposed motor is equipped with the sufficient performance in order to make for practical use.
