Abstract
This paper proposes an adjustable field IPM motor with reverse saliency while having a field adjustment winding on a rotor. Hybrid Excitation Motors with a wide operating area suffer from copper loss due to field windings, resulting in lower efficiency the medium torque at low-speed area where copper loss is dominant than conventional IPM motors. The proposed motor aims for a structure that can improve efficiency in the medium torque at low-speed area while having an effective variable field performance by providing a small number of windings on the rotor side. Two-dimensional finite element analysis (2D-FEA) has revealed that the proposed motor has excellent characteristics as a traction motor.
