Abstract

A binuclear tetra-acetate bridged GdIII complex [Gd22-O2CMe)4(H2L)2](ClO4)2·2H2O·2MeOH was synthesized, where H2L = bis(5-methylimidazol-4-yl-methylideneaminopropyl)methylamine. The linear polydentate ligand H2L functions as a binding group to two GdIII ions. Two GdIII ions are bridged by two acetate in η112 fashion and other two in η212 fashion. The GdIII⋯GdIII distance of 3.920(6) Å is shorter than 4.183(1) Å of the bis-acetate bridged GdIII complex [{GdIII(O2CMe)3(H2O)2}2]·4H2O. A weak anti-ferromagnetic GdIII–GdIII interaction was observed.
