Abstract
This paper describes the cell size extending effect of delay spread control in PHS. As the delay spread control method, maximal ratio combining diversity or transversal combining DFE is used. These delay spread control techniques are realized, and their characteristics are verified in hardware experiments. It is shown that the tap coefficient estimation algorithm in the delay spread control technique can be realized with a DSP 1 chip if simplified, so that the technique is highly applicable to PHS. Based on the results of the above hardware experiment and the empirical propagation estimation equation, the cell size extending effect of PHS is estimated. It is shown that a cell size extension by a factor of 1.3 to 1.8 is achievable if the required BER is 10-2 to 10-3.
