Abstract

The development of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) has improved the diagnosis and treatment in the oral and maxillofacial region. CBCT is reliable for evaluating hard tissues and anatomical structures in the case of jawbone fractures. CBCT can detect clearly hard tissue lesions such as mesiodens and odontoma. CBCT images allow oral surgeons to understand the three-dimensional (3D) anatomy of the lesion, including the surrounding structures, in detail. In this chapter, we will describe the clinical use of CBCT for the imaging of traumatic injuries, mesiodens, odontomas, osteomyelitis and cystic lesions in the jaw by oral surgeons.
