Abstract

The study in the direction of establishing a basis for IT suitable for elderly users is necessary especially on the input devices. In this study, it has been investigated how the aging factor and the letter (character) size of a keyboard affects the usability in a text entry task. It was also investigate how the experience factors of computer use affected the efficiency for elderly computer users. The performance measures (entry speed and correctly entered number per min) of the young group doubled those of the middle and elderly groups. The effect of the alphabetic letter size on the performance was observed for the middle and elderly age groups of subjects who were classifies as a no-experience group. The young group and the middle and elderly group with experience of computer operation and utilization were robust to the size of alphabetic letters.
