Abstract

Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) has several advantages over traditional medical computed tomography (CT) including its high resolution, lower radiation dose, reduced incidence of metal artifacts and the lower cost. Since it was first used clinically, CBCT has been reported to have many uses. CBCT is reliable for evaluating hard tissues and anatomical structures associated with the jaw, such as impacted lower third molars, mandibular canals and maxillary sinus. In this chapter, we will describe the clinical use of CBCT to depict important anatomical and morphological structures in the jawbone.
