Abstract
New glasses were obtained in the system Al-Cd-Pb-O-F and investigated by 27Al magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The chemical shift with respect to [Al(H2O)6]3+ indicated the presence of both four- and six-coordinated Al atoms (Al(4) and Al(6) units) in the glasses. Not only the fraction of Al (6) but also the number of fluorine atoms taking part in Al(6) increased with increasing fluorine content.
