Abstract
Considerable activities of LDH, GOT and GPT were detected in human blood stains when measured by UV absorbance photometry. The activities in the blood stain were considerably higher than those in serum, and were comparable to those in completely hemolyzed blood. A method for the determination of the age of a blood stain was developed by utilizing the relationship between the age and the activities of LDH, GOT and GPT in the blood stain. The age of a blood stain can be determined with the stain, 50 μl equivalent of the original blood, by a combination of ratios of LDH/GOT and GOT/GPT up to 12 weeks. Since the ratios are used, the present method may be applicable even to blood stains whose blood volume is unknown. This method would be useful as a tool for determining the age of a blood stain in the field of forensic medicine.
