Abstract

This paper proposes a hierarchical land-use model (HILUM) and presents its application to regional transport network planning. HILUM is composed of two subsidiary models: an activity location model and a land-use model. The total activities in a metropolitan area are allocated in a hierarchical manner using these two models. The basic concept of each subsidiary model was presented by the authors in earlier papers. In this paper, the authors discuss the application of HILUM to regional transport network planning in the Osaka metropolitan area, as well as the structure of the model.
