N2 - Both the demolished concrete and many types of slag have been increasing. They are now used for pavement base or the reclamation materials. The supply of pavement base is much more than the demand. Taking the lack of good quality natural aggregate into consideration, it will be natural to use the low quality aggregate, such as recycled aggregate in the future. It has been clear that the durability and time-dependent strain of concrete with low quality aggregate is sometimes inferior to that of normal concrete. In this paper, it will be shown that the water absorption of aggregate can be used to judge the decreased strength of concrete with low quality aggregate. Also, it will be shown that the drying shrinkage strain of concrete with low quality aggregate can be predicted by the equation now in use with unit water content of concrete and the water absorption of aggregate.
