Abstract

Purpose: To report early changes in retinal sensitivity following vitreous surgery for idiopathic epiretinal membrane. Cases and Method: This study was made on 29 eyes of 26 patients who received 25-G vitreous surgery for epiretinal membrane during 5 months. Retinal sensitivity within 20 degrees from the fixating point was measured using Macular Integrity Assessment^® (Topcon) before and after surgery. Visual acuity was evaluated as logMAR. Results: Retinal sensitivity at 89 measured points averaged 21.1 dB before surgery, 22.6 dB one month and 23.4 dB 3 months after surgery. The difference between values before and 3 months after surgery was significant. Visual acuity averaged 0.42, 0.20 and 0.17 respectively. It improved significantly after one month of surgery. Conclusion: Retinal sensitivity improved after 3 months of vitreous surgery for idiopathic epiretinal membrane.
