Abstract
In order to study the effects of Ba-addition to the high-Tc phase in the Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-Cu-O system, measurements of X-ray diffraction and DC resistance, SEM observations and EDX analysis were made for samples with compositions of Bi:Pb:Sr:Ca:Cu: Ba=0.9:0.2:1.0:1.0:1.6:x (x=0−0.10). Samples were prepared by mixing powders of the high-Tc phase and BaCO3 and heating at 835 to 855°C for 60h in air. The high-Tc phase was without other compounds obtained in samples with x=0.04 to 0.05 heated at 845 to 850°C for 60h. Dissolution of Ba into the high-Tc phase was confirmed by EDX analysis. Ba-addition increases the c-axis length of the high-Tc phase and Tc(R=0) up to 119K. The growth of the high-Tc phase was found to be accelerated by Ba-addition.
