Abstract

The effects of switch type and its location on the in-vehicle task performance, the duration and the frequency of visual off road and the subjective evaluation on usability and workload were explored. The task completion time of the number selection-type switch mounted around the steering wheel was shorter than that of other conditions. The cursor control-type switch, irrespective of installation locations, also led to shorter switch operation time. The non-integrated switches were, as a whole, superior to the integrated switches from the viewpoints of task completion time and visual time off road.
