Abstract

The attachment of Staphylococcus aureus strain was weaker in plasma with 5% zinc oxide than in the control plasma without zinc oxide. The colonies on the immature biofilms completely disappeared in plasma with 5% zinc oxide and 0.2% hinokitiol. Ointment containing 5% zinc oxide was useful for atopic dermatitis lesions colonizing S. aureus at a density ≤ 1000 cfu/10cm2 (stamp method). But, we should use ointment containing 5% zinc oxide and 0.2% hinokitiol for atopic dermatitis lesions colonizing S. aureus at a density ≥ 1000 cfu/10cm2. 10% povidone-iodine solution was effective only for floating S. aureus cells which were not surrounded by fibrin bundles. 10% povidone- iodine solution was not effective for sessile cells and floating cells which were surrounded by fibrin bundles. We think that 10% povidone-iodine solution should be used in atopic dermatitis lesions colonizing S. aureus at a density ≥ 1000 cfu/10cm2 within a limited area for the shortest possible duration.
