Abstract

In wire EDM using a fine wire electrode, uniform distribution of spark location is necessary to achieve high-performance machining. It is difficult to precisely evaluate the distribution of spark location by the conventional method. In this study, a new evaluation method by using a high-speed video camera is proposed. The locations of spark are analyzed using the recorded images during machining, Then, the effects of servo voltage, pulse interval time and wire running speed on the distribution of spark location are investigated by the new method. The new method clarified that spark distribution became uniform when servo voltage was high, pulse interval time was long, and wire running speed was low.
