N2 - In general, a rare-earth permanent magnet that has large energy product is used for traction motors mounted on hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). However, it is necessary to develop rare-earth-free motors for the HEV traction motors owing to several problems such as price hike and export restriction of rare-earth materials. In this paper, a ferrite permanent magnet axial gap motor with coreless rotor structure is introduced as the rare-earth-free motor. In addition, the motor structure and the results of 3D-FEA are described in detail.
