Abstract

Laser forming was discussed to apply as a post-processing technology for carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastics (CFRTP) in this study. Laser forming characteristics of the CFRTP sheets were experimentally investigated using a CO2 laser with the wavelength of 10.6 µm and the peak power of 100 W. The laser forming was carried out by scanning a laser beam of 5 mm squared-shape on the surface of the CFRTP sheet. The CFRTP sheet could be bent by thermal stress of the laser beam scanning, and bending angle could be controlled by temperature on the surface of the CFRTP sheet depend on the scanning speed.
