Abstract

The method for removal of solid particulate contaminants using high speed impinging air jet is discussed with particular attention to the effects of operating conditions on the removal efficiency. The operating conditions described here are air pressure in the jet nozzle, distance between nozzle tip and the surface on which particles are adhered, jet impinging angle, humidity of removal environment, and scan speed of the nozzle. The effect of the surface material is also described. It was shown that the effects of the air pressure and the distance could be evaluated from the dynamic pressure of air jet which can be estimated from analytical equations. It was also shown that the removal efficiency was significantly affected by the humidity in the environment of particle removal and reached a peak at a certain humidity (=optimum humidity). The optimum humidity depended on the surface material. In addition, two methods for enhancing the removal efficiency, pulsed jet method and vibrating jet method, are presented.
