Hybridization of photonic crystal cavities and surface plasmons

We propose optical nanocavities based on the hybridization of photonic crystal cavities modes and surface plasmons across nanoscale air gaps. Deep subwavelength mode volume and high quality factor are demonstrated at 1.55 μm.
