Abstract
We investigated the effect of hyperglycemia on microvascular dysfunction in patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI). Patients with no reflow after primary percutaneous coronary intervention had higher blood glucose levels on hospital admission than those with good myocardial perfusion. Blood glucose level on admission was one of the independent predictive factors of the no-reflow phenomenon. The association between hyperglycemia and no reflow could be one of the mechanisms of the deleterious effects of hyperglycemia in acute MI patients.
