Importance of future multi-institutional study in reconstructive surgical field

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Although reconstructive surgery has played an important role in the treatment of ablative surgery for cancer, there is no standard reconstructive technique available worldwide. The results of a multi-institutional study of reconstruction for laryn-gopharyngoesophagectomy indicated that a wide variety of reconstructive techniques caused the major differences in outcomes regarding postoperative morbidity and mortality among each institution. In order to establish safe and reliable methods in the reconstructive field, it is necessary to share a common concept among surgeons, and perform future multi-institutional study of the reconstructive field.
