Abstract
An 81-year-old woman presented with left flank pain and fever in December, 1996. After ultrasonography revealed a right renal tumor, she was referred to our hospital. Enhanced abdominal computed tomography showed bilateral heterogeneous tumors. Based on findings of magnetic resonance imaging and angiography, we made a clinical diagnosis of bilateral renal cell carcinoma. Operative findings suggested an inflammatory tumor in the left kidney, which was confirmed by frozen section; we were able to preserve the left kidney. The final histopathological diagnosis was right renal cell carcinoma with acute focal bacterial nephritis in the left kidney.
