Abstract
We reviewed 7 patients with insufficiency of convergence and accommodation secondary to blunt trauma to the head and neck, or whiplash injury, during the past 10-year period. Accommodation was reduced in all the 7 patients, convergence was normal in 3, weakened in 3 and absent in 2. Subjective symptoms improved in all cases by wearing convex lenses for near and/or base in prisms. The state of insufficiency of convergence and acommodation persisted throughout. Convergence and accommodation insufficiency has to be suspected when patients present with ophthalmological complaints after whiplash injuries.
