Abstract

In an attempt to understanding what energy-saving lifestyles entail, this study analyzes lifestyle factors affecting peoples' energy-saving behavior and household electricity consumption. People's values and energy attitude, based on social-psychological theories, as well as other indicators representing ways of living, calculated from HEMS data, are jointly used in the analysis. The ways of living indicators are the strongest influencer on electricity consumption, as suggested by previous studies, but people's values also have a certain leve l of influence. Self-transcendent values are especially important in fostering connections from people's behavioral intentions to actual actions, and therefore realizing energy-saving lifestyles.
