Abstract
A rigid body-spring model whose formula of stiffness is revised from the original model proposed by Kawai is applied to some dynamic analyses of geotechnical structures. The governing equation of motion with damping effects is derived from the virtual work principle. This model can easily represent progressive and discontinuous failure process of structures. Response characteristics of this model are clarified, then several numerical examples are presented.-Authors
