Abstract

The 5f electronic properties in the ferromagnet UGa2 with the hexagonal structure were investigated. High quality samples were grown and their electrical resistivity, thermal expansion, elastic constant, Hall coefficient and de Haas-van Alphen oscillation were measured. Two characteristic temperatures were found: a Curie temperature at 123 K and another at 100 K below which the crystal is distorted in the basal plane. This distortion is most likely driven by the development of a ferromagnetic moment oriented along the [1 1 2̄ 0] direction.
