Abstract
We introduce Minamata Disease and present the history of the disease in a chronological order (from outbreak to the current situation). The history of the disease shows us invaluable lessons for future public health strategies: First, prompt countermeasures should be conducted when a cause is identified and should not be postponed until an etiological agent is identified. Second, lack of investigation obscures the feature as well as the expansion of the disease and unnecessarily confuses the situation. Third, the womb is the environment. Finally, social circumstances can induce disease.
