Abstract

We evaluated the MR appearance of five pulmonary hamartomas compared with pathologic specimens. Three of the five tumors were chondromatous hamartomas showed very high signal intensity on T2WT. With Gd-DTPA enhancement, one showed no enhancement, one showed marked enhancement of the septa, and the other one showed complete enhancement. The size of the cartilaginous core and the quantity and form of fibrous connective tissue were responsible for these differences. Two of the five tumors were fibroadenomatous hamartomas and showed intermediate or low signal intensity on T2WI. According to hyalinization, one showed no enhancement. The MR appearance of pulmonary hamartomas varies depending upon the pathological characteristics of the tumor.
