title = "NEW PROCESS FOR MAKING STAINLESS STEEL.",
abstract = "In the Chiba Works of Kawasaki Steel Corporation, an 85t new UHP melting furnace (MF) was erected and the existing BOF converted into a top-and-bottom-blown converter (K-BOP). A new process came on stream in 1981 for the bilateral production of carbon and stainless steel by K-BOP and MF-K-BOP. Equipment was installed to supply dephosphorized hot metal instead of iron scrap. An increase in productivity and cost reduction has been achieved.",
