Abstract

The direct polycondensation of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (HBA) in the presence of 4-alkyloxybenzoic anhydride by means of the reaction-induced crystallization of oligomers was described. Thermal properties and crystal structure of poly(p-oxybenzoyl) (POB) were examined to support the formation of high molecular weight POB. Thermal properties of the obtained crystals were measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).
