A new uniflow annealing system (UAS) has been developed and employed in the manufacture of cold-rolled steel sheets of drawing quality. The system involves a series of stationary furnaces and each furnace consists of a heating chamber and a cooling chamber. UAS eliminates the shortcomings of a conventional batch annealing process and its implementation leads to the following results: (1) Reduction of fixed operation cost due to a substantial cut-down of manpower required; (2) Energy saving due to reduction of unit fuel consumption; (3) Shorter manufacture period and simplified production process control; and (4) Increased work safety and simplified pollution control.
