Abstract

The authors propose a queueing network model to examine the effects of the layered communication protocol implementation on the end-to-end delay. The main features of this model are as follows: based on the communication cycle, that is, data packet transmission → wait for ACK (→ timeout → retransmission) → receipt of ACK, each layer is modeled individually; and the case where one processor serves more than one layer process is considered.
