Abstract
In this paper we describe our recent studies on the properties of photochemical hole burning of organic dye molecules, mainly 1, 4-dihydroxyanthraquinone and its related molecules, in variety of organic or inorganic glassy matrices. Electronic and structural conditions for the formation of stable holes are discussed in addition to the significant role of the matrices and the effect in disordered systems. Hence we try to deduce the problems to be overcome and to construct our basic ideas on designing the materials for the future wavelength multiplexed data storage.
