Abstract

Cu-dispersed porous carbon composites for capacitor electrodes were prepared from different kinds of sawdust. The preparation conditions and characteristics of capacitance of the Cu-carbon composites were discussed. Even though the preparation conditions were the same, the composites showed differences in pore structure, surface area, Cu content and capacitance. However, the effect of surface area and Cu content of the composite on the capacitance did not depend on the kind of sawdust employed. A useful guide for preparation of carbon electrodes was obtained as follows: 1) Activation with CO2. 2) Large surface area of carbon matrix. 3) Cu content around 10 mass% of the composite.
