Abstract

Detailed temperature dependence of Raman scattering spectra of CuGeO3 has been measured in the temperature region between 4.2 and 30 K, to clarify the anomaly of phonons and magnetic excitations in the vicinity of spin-Peierls (SP) transition at 14 K. Among the five Raman peaks, which appear in the SP state, only a peak at 230 cm-1 remains above SP transition temperature. Judging from the line shape, this peak can be assigned to be an ordinary two-magnon excitation of antiferromagnets.
