Abstract
We investigated that the retinotopic organization of the peripheral visual field within human visual cortex using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). To create the eccentricity map including more peripheral visual field, we designed a new experimental tool, which can stimulate the retina with expanded eccentricities by flickering light. When the subjects were stimulated by more peripheral stimuli, the activated areas of their primary visual cortex are located on the more anterior part. Our findings are consistent with previous measurement of the eccentricities on human primary visual cortex and give complementary ones about the retinotopic organization of higher peripheral vision.
