Abstract

We study the effects of a transverse field on the ground-state properties of an Ising-like antiferromagnetic chain, emphasizing the role played by domain walls. In particular, the ground-state phase transition found within the mean-field approximation is discussed in connection with the result obtained by the phenomenological renormalization group method.
