Abstract

The unique contribution of this paper is recipe utilization and generation to analyze safety and support the operator in handling plant operation. Recipe is implemented in extensible markup language (XML) as object oriented tools to structure and manage plant information system. This paper describes operator support system to handle plant operation using embedded-batch recipe. Operators need supporting system to explore parameter, safety aspects and other important information during batch operation. Safety support system is developed from ANSI/ISA S88 part 1 and part 2 (S88) standards. S88 describes batch control system, data structure and language in batch operation. According to this standard, embedded nested batch recipe can be performed and as references for ongoing processes. Process analysis can be carried out after data from sensor is converted to SML (sensor markup language) and reasoned to find abnormality. Failure modes, causes, consequences, recommended actions would be displayed to operator before taking appropriate actions. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) batch plant is used for case study.
