Molecular dynamics simulation model was used to study solvation forces and liquid-solid phase equilibria of water confined between hydrophobic surfaces. The thermodynamics for a confined system at constant surface separation, temperature and lateral or bulk pressure were analyzed. Freezing and melting of water at certain intersurface separations were observed. The solvation force curves exhibited discontinuous changes and large hysteresis due to the phase transitions.
