Abstract

Muon spin relaxation(μSR) measurements are reported on a polycrystalline sample of LiV2O4 at temperatures down to 20 mK. No sign of magnetic order was found over the investigated range of temperature, proving the high quality of the sample. The μSR signal at lower temperature is clearly composed of two components with almost equal partition, suggesting the presence of inequivalent local magnetic moments at V sites. This is in favor of mechanisms other than those based on the Kondo effect for an anomalously enhanced electronic density of states in LiV2O4.
