Abstract

A vinyl-substituted (3-hydroxy carbanion syn-thon is produced by reduction of 1,3-diene monoepoxide with CrCl2 in the presence of Lil. The reagent reacts with aldehydes to afford R*,R* adducts stereoselectively.
