Abstract

The structure of peroxotungstic acid (W-PTA) prepared from metallic W and aqueous H2O2 was investigated based on Raman, IR, and XRD analyses. W-PTA was an amorphous compound constructed of peroxo polytungstate anions, in which the anions were bound to each other through hydrogen bonding. RDF analyses suggested that the polyanion was W12O38(O2)16-6, in which a six-membered ring of corner-shared polyhedra, such as WO5(O2) or WO6, was sandwiched by two W3O10 units consisting of edge-shared WO6.
