Abstract

We examined 51 patients treated with interferon-α for metastatic renal cell cancer. The results comprised complete response (CR) in no patients, partial response (PR) in 6 patients, no change (NC) in 34 and progression of disease (PD) in 11. The overall response rate was 11.8%. All of the responders had lung metastasis. One-, three- and five-year survival rates were 63.7%, 21.5% and 12.5%, respectively. There were 5 long-term survivors in the NC group who showed survival times in excess of 5 years, who had undergone radical nephrectomy because of good performance status.
